A petition to protect Coventry's
green spaces

Around and across our City treasured green spaces are threatened with development and urban sprawl.

Local residents, community groups, Councillors and Mayor Andy Street are all campaigning to protect more of our green spaces.

They want to see the Council change its approach by reviewing its Local Plan (which decides how many and where houses are built) - in light of the Climate Emergency, population growth slowing to the lowest in ten years and the impact of Covid.

They want to see the Council implement a genuine “brownfield first” policy to regenerate these sites first, which are often more central and sustainable with better public transport.

Only by reviewing the Local Plan can we reduce the intense pressure on to develop greenfield sites.

Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands

Cllr. Gary Ridley, Conservative Group Leader, Coventry City Council

I call on the Coventry City Council to review their Local Plan to protect our green spaces.

Why do we ask for this?
